Additional Information: What is ORP

ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) describes a substance’s tendency to either gain or lose electrons. It reflects how strongly a substance can act as an oxidizing agent (electron acceptor) or a reducing agent (electron donor). ORP is measured in millivolts (mV) and can have positive or negative values.

A positive ORP value indicates a strong oxidizing environment. Substances like chlorine or ozone, commonly used for disinfection, typically show high positive ORP readings. In contrast, negative ORP values point to strong reducing conditions, often associated with metals, antioxidants, or organic matter.

Applications of ORP Transmitters

ORP transmitters play a key role in water treatment and quality monitoring. In drinking water systems, high ORP levels generally indicate effective disinfection, while lower values may suggest microbial activity or contamination risks.

In aquaculture, hydroponics, and agriculture, ORP measurement helps control water quality and maintain ideal conditions for plant growth and aquatic life.

Overall, ORP provides valuable insight into the chemical characteristics of a solution and its ability to drive or resist oxidation-reduction reactions. This makes it a critical parameter in process control, environmental monitoring, and industrial automation.
